Credit Card Processing Fees!

Sounds like an insurance commercial doesn't it?

Credit card processing is a very competitive industry; and similar to insurance, rates and fees can vary based on your industry, prior processing experiences, business history, etc.

Here are a few ways you can take advantage of the competitive nature of the credit card processing industry, and win:

First, make the switch or fake like you're making the switch to a new credit card processing company.

Go fill out an application or two, find out the average going rate for credit card processing. Be as detailed as possible on the application, it will save you time and money.

Recognize that there are always better rates out there - at the expense of service, monthly fees, and junk fees.

You need to consider the service history of the processor in question: how many accounts do they manage? How many of those accounts cancel each month? What are their monthly fees? What are their rates? What does a statement look like? You should ask all of these questions when considering a switch or if you're just about to sign up with a processor.

Second, give the new company AND the old company a chance to serve you. Give them both a call - time them, find out who answers first and ask them the same series of questions so you can feel out how it might be working with each company.

Some good questions are: What is the best rate you can give me? Can you show me a statement example and explain it to me over the phone? What other standard fees apply?

Make them work for your business.

Third, the ultimate money saving question: What are your debit card rates like? And what type of equipment can I get by staying or switching to you?

Most of our clients have found that their current processor will charge them 1.5% or more to take debit cards! And in that case, the extra .2% probably isn't going to break the bank so you can simply charge debit cards like credit cards, which we don't advise.

You can accept credit cards for around 1.7 or 1.8% swiped and accept debit cards for around .8 or 1% swiped. In most cases, that is a BIG cost difference!

We offer Free QuickBooks Software or a Free Credit Card Terminal when new businesses sign up with us or existing businesses switch to us for merchant credit card processing. Existing businesses get a machine upgrade for free! We often hear that when you call your old company, they won't give you a thing! Why should you use old, out dated equipment and pay the same or higher rates than you would if you switched?

Finally, after finding out what the best deals for accepting credit cards and debit cards, make the switch or call your existing provider and negotiate a lower rate and get something for free in the process!

We strongly recommend getting something free and lowering your rates at the same time: and that is typically the best way to save 15% or more on your credit card processing fees!
